SAN FERNANDO, Camarines Sur – Thirteen (13) persons died, 25 more injured when a truck they were riding on lost its brakes, rammed a tree when the driver tried to negotiate a downhill run that caused the truck to roll over, throwing some of the riding passengers into the concrete pavement.
The accident happened about 5:20 Saturday afternoon at Barangay Tagpocol, this town. The truck is reportedly owned by the local government of San Fernando.
According to sources at the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City where the victims were brought for medical treatment, the truck driver was suspected to be drunk when the accident happened.
Also, the victims were returning home from a “pre-wedding” social visit (Namamanhikan) at the bride’s house, which explained that many children were counted among the injured and the dead.

Reports said the soon-to-be bride was among those who died.
The truck driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries and damage to properties.
“Let us offer a minute of prayer to all those who perished in the recent vehicular accident in Tagpocol. Also prayer is requested for those injured for their fast healing and recovery,” San Fernando Mayor Fermin Mabulo posted in his Facebook account.
