A black American soldier deserted his unit and fought with Filipino revolutionaries during the Philippine- American War in 1899-1902, an embarrassment incident which the American forces had tried to suppress the reports.

American researches, after so many years, finally discovered the truth, and had found out the motivating drive for the black American soldier’s defection to the Filipino revolutionary forces was his anger over the “treatment of Blacks back home in the US in 1899.”
