PILI, Camarines Sur – Dengue cases have risen to 43% in the Bicol Region after it recorded 756 cases from January 1 to March 2, 2019.

Camarines Sur Province has the highest number of cases at 425, followed by Sorsogon – 110, Albay – 88, Camarines Norte 63, Masbate – 47, and Catanduanes – 22.

The Department of Health regional office in Legazpi City calls for multi-sectoral collaboration to eliminate dengue by following its dengue control program, called 4S Strategy.

Dr. Ernie Vera, DOH Bicol OIC Regional Director, has emphasized that cooperation and consistent practice of the 4S Strategy is the key to avoid dengue.

As described, 4S Strategy stands for “Search and Destroy” mosquito breeding places, “Self-protection measures”, “Seek early consultation” for fever as early as one day, and “Say yes to fogging” as a last resort when there is an impending outbreak.

Dr. Vera reminds the public that if symptoms such as high fever, severe joint and muscle pains, headaches, fatigue, nausea and vomiting are detected, one must consult a doctor immediately. []
