A joint military and police operation captured Datu Jomorito Goaynon and Ireneo Udarbe last night after a local court issued their arrest.
The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Emmanuel P. Pasan from the Regional Trial Court Branch 38 for four counts of attempted and frustrated murders.
Police claimed they are not missing following the report of their arrest by Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas-Northern Mindanao.
Some firearms, subversive documents and grenade fragments they allegedly possessed were seized by authorities.
The College Editors Guild of the Philippines denounces the abduction and illegal incarceration of the peasant leaders as part of the continuing state crackdown on progressive individuals and groups.
“The authorities cannot go away with their implantation and faux cases to brand the peasant leaders as rebel recruiters,” said Jon Callueng, National President of CEGP.
The arrest came with the desperation to quell the growing dissent of indigenous and farming communities against land plunder through entry of large-scale mining operations in Mindanao under martial rule.
The Guild calls on their immediate release and junking of trumped-up charges against them.
