MASBATE CITY – The ambush on a private armed group (PRG) in Barangay Casabangan, Pio V. Corpus, this province, was owned by the New People’s Army operating in the area.

In a statement, the NPA Jose Rapsing Command (JRC-NPA) said its unit ambushed the so-called group Provincial Operation for Socio-Economic Development Against Crime or POSDAC for its abuses, extortion and coercion activities on marginal fishermen.

On October 31, at 5 pm, an NPA unit ambushed the POSDAC men inside a van that resulted in the death of two (2) men and confiscation of a baby armalite, .357 handgun, and 3 ammo magazines after an exchange of gunfire and the escape on foot by wounded POSDAC men.

Among the items discovered were shabu and paraphernalia inside the bag of the wife of Arnulfo Pigon, Jr.

Killed were Arnulfo Pigon Jr, district commander, and Arnulfo Nulping Sr.

Luz del Mar, NPA spokesperson, said POSDAC is a notorious syndicate which uses the “development against crime” tag as a front. POSDAC is headed by Ret. Col. Gelbert Sauro, a self-styled provincial commander.

Among the anti-people activities by POSDAC is the confiscation of fishing net and gears of small fishermen, extortion, and confiscation of fishing boats if POSDAC extortion demands are not met. []
