BULAN, Sorsogon – A 40-year-old police officer died on the spot after a lone gunman shot him at close range in Barangay Somagongsong here at about 4:20 pm, Thursday, August 24.
The police identified the victim as SPO1 Nestor Sanchez Austero who sustained three gunshot wounds to the head from a caliber 45 pistol.
The unidentified suspect fled with the victim’s new Glock pistol and motorcycle, driven by the victim’s accomplice.
The victim was about to leave the area, where he usually parked his motorcycle, with his wife when three young looking men approached them, one of whom shot him.
The police theorized that the victim’s routine of sending off his teacher wife to Somagongsong Elementary School in the morning fetching her in the afternoon apparently was patterned by the suspects that led to his untimely demise.
A native of Leyte and former investigator and intelligence officer, the victim left his wife, Eugene and three children.
Meanwhile, the police have yet to identify the suspect who shot and killed Roland Gracilla at about 11:30 am, Wednesday, August 23, while the latter was managing his farm in Barangay Tugas, Matnog, Sorsogon.
