SORSOGON CITY – Slain barangay captain Oscar Jetomo of Barangay Marinas, Sorsogon City is another case of EJK (extra-judicial killing), according to Sorsogon NPA Celso Minguez Command (NPA-CMC).
The underground rebels’ announcement gives notice that Jetomo was a victim of state-sanctioned killings perpetrated by state security forces.
Jetomo was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Wednesday night, about 8:00 pm, August 16, at his residence.
Earlier during the initial phase of police investigation, over radio interview P/Supt. Edison Dumangas, police chief Sorsogon City PNP, said that they were looking on two possible angles: (1) Personal grudge (2) Giving information by Jetomo to the military.
While PNP Provincial Director Tejada said that Jetomo was giving information to the military, and the killing was insurgency- related.
NPA-CMC said AFP units had been frequenting Barangay Marinas since the August 7 NPA ambush at Barangay Casili, Gubat, where 4 Army troopers were killed, and 7 soldiers were injured.
Samuel Guerrero, NPA-CMC spokesperson, in a statement said that since August 14, a platoon of 31st IBPA had been at Barangay Marinas loitering around.
Three gunmen shot dead Jetomo whose house was only about 100 meters from where Army troops with high-powered weapons were on watch, said the NPA spokesperson.
After the Casili ambush, the 31st IBPA was responsible on the killings of three civilians suspected as collaborating with the NPA.
“The soldiers were targeting civilians to vent their anger over their losses in the Casili ambush,” said Guerrero.
Barangay Marinas is near Gubat boundary, the town where a recent AFP-NPA clash was reported and also the area where frequent AFP combat operations were launched. [BicolToday.com]
