RAGAY, Camarines Sur. 20July2017 – An Army soldier was killed in the Ragay firefight Wednesday, and not an NPA fighter, the New People’s Army (NPA) in western Camarines Sur said Thursday.
The NPA Norman Gruta Command (NPA-NGC) said contrary to Army reports, it is the Army which suffered a casualty during a 30-minute encounter on Wednesday, 5:00 pm at Salvacion village, Ragay, this province.
Earlier, the Army reported the NPA suffered casualties and none on their side,
According to a rebel statement posted at the internet, the NPA-NGC had monitored 3 AFP units Tuesday 2:00 am maneuvering at Baya, Napolidan, and Cawayan villages.
The next afternoon, Wednesday, a unit of Alpha Company of 9th IB, 9th ID was spotted by an NPA team entering Salvacion village from Baya, and the NPA unit opened fire at the advancing column.
The first volley of fire hit an Army soldier.
Michael Robredo, NPA-NGC spokesperson, said their units have remained vigilant over AFP operations and has heeded the call by the Communist Party of the Philippines to launch counter-actions against the AFP, martial law, and all-out war. [BicolToday.com]
