e-Grades for Teachers

SORSOGON CITY — New technologies have already been taken into consideration and have been on top of almost all systems being used in any modern company, businesses and institutions, either in the private and public sectors.

Setting an innovation to a process, conduct and system makes a huge difference to the way every individual, or group of individuals performs functions, roles and responsibilities as it also speeds up the accomplishment of desired outputs.

While educational technology is traditionally seen as an educational resource for students, the same is also perceived to benefit the teachers and directly impact on their professional developments.

The structural framework of education is hierarchical in nature. Each of this level is comprised by individuals with differing goals, interests and perspectives and, thus, results in groups that possess varying practices and norms, which basically determine the success, or shortcoming of the projected goals.

In line with the implementation of the Enhanced Basic Education Act 2013, the DepEd released DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015 entitled “Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K-12 Basic Education Program” which will allow teachers to track and measures learners’ progress and to adjust instruction as needed.

This will also informs the learners, even the parents or guardians, on their progress.

Antiquated procedure may result to heavy workloads. A teacher, burdened with congesting loads, will become unproductive and will more likely downsize the level of performance.

A descending level of performance logically results to a very low level of productivity.

Mistakes are also expected from a teacher who simply has too many responsibilities on his/her plate. An educator who is fatigued and handles multiple tasks may miss crucial deadlines.

And so, the department issued DepEd Memo No. 60, s. 2015 entitled “Provisions of the DepEd Electronic Class Record Template” for easy facilitation of the Classroom Assessment for the K-12 Basic Education Program.

With this template, teachers can compute the grade of the learner with accurate and speedy results. It is free for use by teachers even for private schools who wish to use the template.

The program was created using the spreadsheet program in Microsoft called Excel. One of the most useful feature of Microsoft Excel is that it can perform calculation using formulas.

It does not simply perform basic operation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, but also performs a wide variety of functions that can be used to create formulas.

The program created is a user-friendly, but with security features to avoid deletion of the hidden formulas needed for computing the grades of the students.

This tool will be of great help especially to the teachers handling advisory class. The program automatically computes the numerical rating with its equivalent descriptive rating.
