PILI, Camarines Sur – Carlo Batalla, the person responsible for a number of complaints filed before the Ombudsman against Camarines Sur ex-governor LRay Villafuerte has been receiving death threats, the Citizens Crime Watch (CCW) said Thursday.

His complaints also affected incumbent Governor Migz Villafuerte, son of LRay.

One complaint filed by Batalla has been elevated at the Sandiganbayan, and now under trial.

This involved the purchase of 500,000 liters of gasoline worth PhP 20 million that were consumed in 3 months. (See related news link: Ex-governor Lray Villafuerte in Sandiganbayan trial Wednesday-Friday ).

Batalla, who is also secretary-general of CCW, is reported very cautious in his campaign as he is running for provincial board member in Camarines Sur’s 1st district.

He is a former board member and he wants again to participate in provincial governance.

Batalla did not identify who are threatening him, but he confided the death threats are related to his expose’ and complaints against provincial officials filed before the Ombudsman. According to CCW, despite of the threats, Batalla is campaigning hard to win a seat at the provincial board hoping to initiate reforms.

“He wants to free the provincial government from the father-son power clique, including their lackeys,” said a CCW source.
