SORSOGON CITY – The Liberal Party in Sorsogon cannot fully, or totally support the candidacy of Rep. Leni Robredo as vice president, this was revealed by local politicians here.
Instead they will throw their support to Senator Chiz Escudero for vice president.
The Escudero family is the longtime ally of Lee family, who are both political clans, holding local positions for over a decade.
Chiz’s father, Salvador Escudero, became Agriculture Minister of the late dictator President Ferdinand Marcos, Assemblyman in Sorsogon’s first district and representative for three consecutive terms, and appointed by then President Fidel Ramos as Agriculture Secretary.
Those times, Governor Raul Lee had gone underground during martial law. Afterwards, he became mayor of Sorsogon, and elected governor for several terms.
With these, the alliance of Lee and Escudero is strong, regardless of their political affiliations.
At present, the wife and son of Gov. Lee are in Liberal Party, who are running for City Mayor and Governor respectively.
Mar-Chiz tandem in Sorsogon
Over media interview, Robert Lee-Rodrigueza, endorses the Roxas-Escudero tandem in Sorsogon province.
“Its Mar-Chiz tandem in Sorsogon” – Bobet Lee-Rodrigueza says over media interview
“Dito sa province ng Sorsogon understandable na yun.” (Here in Sorsogon, it’s very understandable).
“Nung pag punta dito ni Secretary Mar na explain na namin, kakaiba ang Sorsogon dahil taga rito si Senator Chiz, kaya Mar-Chiz na kami.” (When Secretary Roxas came over, we explain to him that Chiz is native of Sorsogon, and we are for Mar-Chiz tandem.)
Kagaya ng Camarines Sur, Grace Poe and Leni Robredo din sila”‘, Bobet Lee added.
But, Rodrigueza did not mention that Leni Gerona Robredo’s roots are from Bulan, Sorsogon.
Rodrigueza is running for governor under the Liberal Party.
Robredo weak LP leadership
Leni Robredo became a subject of controversy in Camarines Sur last week of February over reports that she allegedly received P500 million from President Aquino and Mar Roxas just to accept the deal that she would become Roxas’ vice-president. The controversy came up from disgruntled LP men in Camarines Sur who were cash-starved waiting for the closed LP money pipeline to open up, while other parties are already lubricated in organizing political works at the barangay level.
The Robredo camp did not issue any comment regarding the alleged largesse, while Leni chose to stay silent.
