SORSOGON CITY, 5March2016 – Police here Thursday afternoon, March 3, arrested Ric de los Reyes Patula, 22 years old, as suspect for violation of cybercrime law on libel and robbery/extortion using high-tech, digital means.
Suspect Patula is a resident of Purok 7, Barangay Penafrancia, Sorsogon City.
According to police, suspect Patula opened fictitious accounts in Facebook and social media using the names of “Nicole Anderson” and “Akiko Gonzales”, and added the victim as “friend”.
The police did not divulge in public the name of the victim.
After several private exchange of messages between “Nicole Anderson” and the victim, “Anderson” on Sunday, February 28, threatened to post in public their conversations in exchange for PhP1.000. to be sent thru Smart Money Padala.
Out of fear of suffering embarrassment and public ridicule, the victim sent the money. Thereafter, the victim blocked “Nicole Anderson” from his account.
On March 2, the suspect used the fictitious account “Akiko Gonzales,” and after several exchange of messages, threatened the victim that his conversations with “Nicole Anderson” will be posted in public.
That night, “Anderson” posted the conversations in BICOLTV Facebook account which became an instant sensation, but was deleted after 30 minutes.
Next day, Thursday March 3, the victim sought police help.
“Akiko Gonzales” had demanded again from the victim PhP4,000. for his photo be removed and deleted, and sent the victim a Smart Money Padala number for money transfer.
Locating the Smart Padala number as belonging to a Sorsogon retail outlet, police planned an entrapment operation.
Operatives of Sorsogon police led by PSINSP Romeo Rocio, Jr. with men from
SORPPO, PIB and RMU5, under the supervision of PSUPT Dionesion Laceda, city police chief arrested the suspect at Barangay Penafrancia, this city.
After claiming the PhP4,000. sent under Smart Money Padala No. 5299-6761-3499-3100, police arrested suspect Patula and seized from him other items, which are:
a. One (1) unit Firefly Mobile S60, color black/white;
b. One (1) unit O+ Cellular Phone, color black;
c. One (1) unit Ipod, color white/blue;
d. One (1) unit Nokia Cellular Phone, color pink; and
e. Four thousand Pesos (PhP4,000.00) cash in various
Police informed suspect Patula of his rights and brought to the police station for booking, documentation, and proper disposition. [BicolToday.com]
