CITY OF NAGA, Bicol Region, 30Nov2015 ( – Suspicion hangs heavily on officials of Bicol Medical Center (BMC) for receiving some under-the-table commissions arising from referrals on CT Scan services offered by nearby NICC hospital.

An informant said the CT Scan equipment of BMC is not functioning in the last two (2) years, and BMC patients are required to avail of CT Scan services from NICC hospital, costing at some P5,000 plus.

BMC is the Bicol Region’s premier tertiary hospital.

The informant said he wondered on why BMC never bother to repair its CT Scan equipment, or purchase a new one to serve the needs of hundreds of patients checking in at the hospital every month.

“It is very much possible that some BMC men receive secret commission for every referral of patient needing CT Scan service at NICC hospital or elsewhere,” the informant said.

According to him, a CT Scan is a basic equipment in big hospitals, and BMC’s huge budget and income can easily purchase the equipment.

During the last 2 years, patients at BMC are required to undergo CT Scan at NICC, less than a kilometer away. []
