SORSOGON CITY, 11Oct2015 (BicolToday.com) – With the rumors that Irosin town mayor Eduardo Ong together with former city mayor Leovic Dioneda are moving heaven and earth to bag the party nomination and become standard bearer of the United Nationalist Alliance(UNA) here in Sorsogon, the soon to retire from public life, Governor Raul Lee has all the wry smile on the pretensions of the duo.
In a huddle with the local media together with his closest political supporters, the governor said that it is still their call who to nominate UNA candidates in the province stressing that he met recently with VP Jejomar Binay in Manila and there the party leadership in the province was not discussed, saying that the previous arrangement stands.
Ong is bruited to run for the second congressional seat here while Dioneda may run again as city mayor for a return bout with Sally Lee the wife of the governor, the incumbent mayor or as congressman to challenge the Evelina Escudero, mother of Senator Francis Escudero, his earstwhile political patron now disowning him because of personal differences.
The group of Lee recommended the appointment of Attorney Gavino ‘Poyong’ Barlin as provincial coordinator while three term city councilor Pedro Ravanilla is the first district chairman. Joseph Yap Jr. of Prieto Diaz was appointed as second district party chairman.
The appointments were seen by political observers here as charge to run the party machinery since at the second district full line-up of the party is in-place, only however the towns of Donsol, Castilla and Magallanes are to fill-up their local slate in the first district.
The affiliations of Lee’s group to UNA is undeniable since the governor is touted as the dean among the Bicol governors in term of political strategy which the UNA party recognizes. [BicolToday.com]
