SORSOGON CITY, 30Mar2015 (BicolToday.com) — After dancing with the idea of renaming Sorsogon National High School to Dr. Salvador H. Escudero III Memorial National High School, Senator Francis Escudero issued an undated and unsigned statement formally asking the proponent of the move to set it aside and not pursue it anymore.
The renaming ploy was exposed in the social media, churning out ridicule to the proponent and dragging the family of the senator in its most negative light among alumni of the Sorsogon National High School and non-graduates that even his local PR man cannot reverse the trend, who insisted that the petition to oppose the resolution was a failure.
The move was introduced March 16 this year by Board Member Roland Añonuevo at the Sanggunian Panlalawigan.
The senator said: “ I do not think Tatay would have wanted to change the name of his alma mater even if it were to be changed in his name”.
The late congressman was a member of Class 1957.The school was then known as Sorsogon Provincial High School, adding “I would rather that his name and memory be immortalized in the hearts and minds of his family, his loved ones as well as that of the people of Sorsogon whom he served and loved so dearly, instead of writing his name on some edifice or structure”.
The open letter by the senator, however, was seen by the opposing alumni as an attempt to cut down the planned social protest of the school alumni on Black Saturday, annual homecoming of the graduates of the iconic Sorsogon landmark which may expose further their indignation over the attempt to rename Sorsogon National High School.
