MANILA, 16Dec2014 — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Tuesday said that officers and personnel of the Maximum Security Compound (MSC) of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) will be ordered to explain how drugs, gadgets and posh appliances managed to sneak inside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
“I will issue a show cause order on the officers and personnel of the MSC all the way down to the jail guards to explain. Depende sa sagot ma-determine kung sino ang kakasuhan ng administrative case,” De Lima said in an ambush interview after her meeting with BuCor director Franklin Bucayu.
De Lima said that she asked Bucayu to give her the names of officials, personnel and guards assigned at the MSC of the NBP.
De Lima’s order came a day after the raid inside the NBP that yielded drugs, gadgets, closed-circuit television (CCTV), bath tubs, a music room and millions of cash in peso and dollar denominations.
“We had a post operation assessment of the raid conducted. We had an inventory of the seized items and gave instructions on what to do,” De Lima said.
According to De Lima, the seized items are classified into illegal such as drugs and firearms; and prohibited such as cash, television, aircon, alcohol and gadgets.
De Lima said that the illegal items would be used as evidence on the cases to be filed against the inmates while the prohibited items would be kept temporarily. (PNA)
