SORSOGON CITY, 5Dec2014 (BicolToday.com) — In response to various weather data culled by the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Sorsogon Governor Raul Lee issued Office Memorandum 012-2014 that suspend today classes in all levels in the province, public or private in anticipation of the possible destruction to lives and properties due to Typhoon “Ruby” expected to affect the province.
The order advised workers in public and private sectors not to report for work to give them enough time to do necessary preparation for the upcoming typhoon.
Offices in the frontline services such those in disaster response, rescue operations, relief distribution, health services and other offices with analogous functions are exempted in the coverage of the memorandum so as not to hamper the delivery of vital services to the people of Sorsogon.
Prior to the release of the provincial memorandum, the office of the city mayor of Sorsogon issued Executive Order No.26-2014 cancelled classes in all levels in all public and private schools as a pre-emptive preparation for the impending Typhoon “Ruby”.
City Mayor Sally Lee upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office issued the order to adequately prepare the evacuation centers as pre-emptive measures and called a disaster risk management meeting with an instruction for coastal barangays residents to move to higher grounds.
As reported by Barcelona MDRRMO, eleven coastal barangays consisting of more of less 1,500 families already evacuated and house in public schools as pre-emptive measures.
The barangays of Bangati, Macabari, Layog, Mapapac, Paghaluban, Jibong, Tagdon, Luneta, Poblacion Sur, Norte and Central are the identified barangays.
Meanwhile, PDRRMO is closely monitoring the movement of Typhoon “Ruby” and will be issuing weather bulletin.
The Severe Weather Bulletin Number 5 released at 5:00 AM today by Pag-asa which will be updated by11:00AM today, Typhoon “Ruby” has gained more strength and slightly slowed down as it continues to move west northwest towards eastern Visayas with a maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 250 kph.
