LEGAZPI CITY, 14May2014 (BicolToday.com) – – More than 32 national flags of the ASEAN and Asia Pacific are now hoisted in this capital city of Albay province and the local government is poised to accept tourism payback as host to three international conventions with foreign delegates and dignitaries to attend on May 15 to 20.
“This is first that Albay was chosen among 156 countries to host, and the next probable hosting for the Philippines will be after 15 years. The province is ready for this and to stage other international conferences” Albay Gov. Joey S. Salceda told newsmen.
He underscored the role of the province the accommodation and preparation of facilities, conference venue and places for three thematic dinners, sites for the technical tours, directional signage and security for more than 300 guests including dignitaries and national officials. “The Department of Tourism (DOT) has allocated P12 million while Albay counterpart is P6 million” Salceda said.
In a press briefing, it was explained that DOT director is designated as chairperson and the head of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Office as co-chair,while other national, regional and provincial offices as members of the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force (JIATF) created and penned under Executive Order No. 06 by Salceda.
Under said order, all concerned will manage, supervise and tasked to do all activities relatedto the hosting of the 40th Meeting of the ASEAN including three National Tourism Organizations; the 26th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Asia and the Pacific and ASEAN International Conference on Tourism and Climate Change.
To handle as operational arm of the JIATF , an Executive Committee was subsequently formed to serve full-time in the day-to-day activities, programs and objectives are ensured and run continuously, smoothly and effectively.
The arrival of delegates expected on May 14 as the 40th ASEAN National Tourism Organization Meeting will run from May 15 to 17 while the 26th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia & the Pacific with Commission for South Asia is on May 18. On May 19 the UNWTO Association for for Southeast Asian Nations International Conference on Tourism and Climate Change will follow until May 20.
