SORSOGON CITY, 4March2014 (BicolToday.com) – The Sorsogon Provincial Board unanimously approved yesterday the proposal of Congressman Deogracias Ramos, which was sponsored in the plenary by board member Renato ‘Joey’ Guban, for consideration of the Regional Development Council (RDC) infrastructure projects intended for the second district of the province.
The office of Ramos has been receiving numerous infrastructure requests from local executives in the district prompting the Congressman to request an immediate inventory from the engineering office of the district of the national infrastructure needing repair, rehabilitation, preservation and maintenance, aside from constructing new gateways to tourism sites and opening access to hinterland barangays by inter-connecting road networks, Guban confided.
Guban expressed concern on the existing conditions of infrastructure in the second district of the province, noting that the Provincial Government does not have enough funds to undertake the projects.
Guban said Congressman Ramos requested the DPWH second engineering district to assess and conduct, by ocular inspections and evaluations, existing district infrastructure for consideration of RDC.
The proposed expenditures by national funds will cover the national road network services, wherein existing national roads should have preventive maintenance, rehabilitation or reconstruction of damaged pave national roads. They also cover widening of national roads, including drainage, off-carriageway improvements and the construction and maintenance of bridges along national roads.
The request also covers flood mitigation structures of the principal rivers in the district, and construction of roads in-line with the tourism development of the province.
In its endorsement, the Provincial Board agreed with the merits of the infrastructure projects, knowing how it will help in the agriculture and tourism potentials, not only in the district ,but the province itself. It gave strong endorsement to the resolution of Board Member Guban.
The request, if approved by RDC, will be included in the programs and activities for implementation of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) which will be funded by the national government that will be included in the national expenditures program. [BicolToday.com]
