SORSOGON CITY, 23Jan2014 (BicolToday.com) – Three (3) aspirants to become the top educator of Sorsogon State College made public their intentions on how to run the institution nationally recognized for topping licensure examinations.

All with doctorate degrees, the applicants presented varied programs that may re-brand the image of the multi-cultural institution. They have to formulate policies, listen intently and take a strong hand to deal with the prevailing issues affecting the institution.

With their supporters, Dr. Modesto Detera of Partido State College, Dr. Miguel Guarin of the College Bulan Campus and Dr. Erwin Malto of Don Emilio Espinosa Sr. Memorial College of Agriculture and Technology presented their plans and programs as their priorities if chosen as the next college president.

Addressing the faculty, non-teaching personnel, students and representatives of various stakeholders of the college, their commonality in approach is how best the state college can be more competitive.

The presentation, witnessed by the selection committee, is considered a toss-up between Detera and Malto for both carry better credentials, was an observation of some of the faculty members who did not want to be identified.

They said Guarin needs a better day to see himself as top man of the institution.

The question of Bicol Today.com “ With your vision which do you think will give a new light/beginning to a multi-cultural institution and how will it impact with the needs of the province for young and dynamic leaders”, Detera said that the institution needs a paradigm shift, aiming for unity, that the vision becomes the guide to achieve one goal.

Malto emphasized that the academe has a shared responsibility to achieve the province vision by institutionalizing research work towards alleviation of poverty. Extension programs are necessary in line with the programs for better education in the countryside.

Guarin, on his part, batted for more exposure in national sports program which the province lags behind, adding that sports is a quantifier in molding leaders.

The evaluation of the applicants and the selection for the next college president shall now rest in the hands of the Board of Trustees.
