MANILA, 13Jan2014 (PNA) – The government weather agency continued its warning against sailing in areas of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, expecting rough to very rough seas with waves 3.4 meters to 5.0 m high from strong to gale force winds associated with the northeast monsoon.
”Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 5:00 a.m. gale warning issued Monday(Jan. 13).
Strong to gale force winds are expected to affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon as well as eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, the Visayas, Mindanao and Davao del Sur, PAGASA noted.
PAGASA expects 52 kph to 68 kph winds in Central Luzon’s seaboard covering Aurora province, forecasting there partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Waves in waters off the area are expected to reach 3.4 m to 5.0 m high, PAGASA noted.
PAGASA also forecast 52 kph to 63 kph winds in Southern Luzon’s seaboard covering the Camarines provinces, Catanduanes province as well as the eastern coast of Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon provinces including Polillo Island.
Those areas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms, PAGASA said.
Waves 3.4 m o 5.0 m high are likely in waters off those seaboards, PAGASA noted.
Between 52 kph to 63 kph winds are likewise expected in the Visayas’ eastern seaboard covering Samar and Leyte provinces, Mindanao’s eastern seaboard covering Dinagat Island, Davao Oriental, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Siargao provinces as well as the eastern seaboard of Davao del Sur, PAGASA further said.
The agency forecast for such areas cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms with waves 3.4 m to 4.5 m high.
PAGASA further reported expecting 52 kph to 63 kph winds in northern Luzon seaboards covering Ilocos Sur, La union, Pangasinan, the western Coast of Ilocos Norte, Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan islands as well as northern coast of Cagayan and Ilocos Norte provinces, Isabela and the eastern coast of Cagayan.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains and waves 3.4 m to 4.5 m high are expected in these areas, PAGASA added. (PNA)
