CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, 25Nov2013 (PNA) – A 16-year-old fourth year high school student died on the way to the hospital after he was swallowed by big waves while swimming with his classmates at the sea off the shore of Sitio Miligabiga, Barangay Mabuhay, Bulusan, Sorsogon, Sunday morning.
A police report reaching Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Bicol regional police director, identified the victim as Deric Perlimbergo, 16, senior student of the Bulusan National High School and a resident of Barangay San Rafael, Bulusan town.
The report said the incident happened at about 9:00 a.m. while the students were swimming and their teacher, Regino Garcia, was collecting shells on the shore.
A strong wave engulfed Perlimbergo and carried him towards a deep portion of the sea.
His classmate, Cesar Firmanes, 19, tried to save him but was also carried away by big waves at first until he finally reached the victim’s position and grabbed him.
Other classmates of Perlimbergo came to their rescue and jointly saved the two as Firmanes was still holding tight on the victim.
With the bad condition of the Perlimbergo, his classmates rushed him to the Irosin District Hospital but he died on the way. (PNA)
