Strong earthquake rocks Masbate, Central Visayas

NAGA CITY, 15Oct2013 (PNA with BicolToday) – A strong earthquake rocked Masbate when a magnitude 7.2 earthquake jolted parts of Central Visayas on Tuesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs).
Masbate registered intensity 4 during the strong earthquake.

Details from Philvocs said the tremor occurred at 8:12 a.m. with its epicenter is traced two kilometers southeast of Carmen town in Bohol.

Phivolcs said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 33 kilometers.

The agency issued warning damages and aftershocks from the tremor.

Meanwhile, latest reports on the earthquake said four (4) people were killed, and 19 were hurt.

Early reports said the fatalities were recovered from a portion of the Pasil Fish Port in Cebu which collapsed, while the 19 injured were hit by falling debris in Mandaue.

The quake was felt at: Intensity 7 – Tagbilaran, Bohol; Intensity 6 – Inigaran, Negros Occidental; Intensity 5 -Iloilo City and La Carlota Negros Occidental; Intensity 4 -Masbate City and Roxas City; and San Jose, Culasi in Antique; Guihulngan, Negros Oriental; and Intensity 3 – Davao City.
