MANILA, 15Oct2013 (PNA) – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday revealed that the death toll for the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that has struck the Central Visayas has now climbed to 20.
Fifteen of those killed were in Cebu City, with 4 in Bohol and one in Siquijor, NDRRMC spokesperson Major Rey Balido said.
Most of those killed were hit by debris and other rubble.
Balido said that they are still validating reports that some persons are trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings in Cebu and Bohol.
Around 33 were reported injured.
Teams are still assessing the damage.
Search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing as of this posting.
The earthquake took place around 8:12 a.m.
At least 20 aftershocks were recorded as of this time. (PNA)
