PNP-Bicol seizes 9 loose firearms, six bladed weapons in election gun ban campaign


LEGAZPI CITY, 14Oct2013 (PNA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) Bicol Regional Office has intensified its campaign against loose firearms and bladed weapons in connection with the upcoming barangay election.

Inspector Malou Calobaquib, Bicol regional police spokesperson, said the Bicol police units under six provincial directors and more than 100 local government unit chiefs of police have confiscated nine loose firearms and six bladed weapons in 16 days.

Calobaquib said these deadly weapons were confiscated in Albay, two firearms and one bladed weapon; Camarines Norte, two firearms and one bladed weapon; Camarines Sur, one firearm; Catanduanes, one firearm; Masbate, one firearm and three bladed weapons; Sorsogon and Naga City, one firearm each.

She said they have already filed charges against nine violators and are set to file cases against six others.

Calobaquib said each police office should conduct a four-hour checkpoint every day in any part of its area of responsibility, particularly in the entry and exit point of the town or city. (PNA)
