Letran clinches twice to beat advantage in Final Four after edging out Perpetual Help

SAN JUAN, 10Oct2013 (PNA) – The Letran Knights crushed the University Of Perpetual Help Altas 74-61, in their Second Round encounter and clinched the precious twice to beat incentive in the Final Four of the NCAA Season 89 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

With this victory, The Knights joined the San Beda Red Lions at the top spot of the NCAA Standings with a 13-3 record. They also rewarded the Red Lions with the other twice to beat advantage.

Kevin Racal paced the Intramuros-based squad after tallying with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Altas started the game strongly by building an eight point lead, 17-9 late in the opening period but the Knights roared back after launching a 10-3 spurt to chop the lead of the Altas to one, 20-19 at the end of the first period.

However, Letran banked on a furious rally in the Second quarter after launching a 14-0 assault to take a 14-point cushion, 34-20 early in the quarter.

The Knights maintained their lead coming in the 3rd quarter and led by as much as 21 points, 51-30 midway through the third period. The Altas didn’t recover from there as the Knights bombarded them with long range bombs to grab the win.

On the other hand, the Altas assured themselves a Final Four spot with a 11-6 record, but failed to clinch one of the two twice to beat incentives.(PNA)
