CITY OF NAGA, Bicol Region, 27Sept2013 ( – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here had padlocked over the week several branches of a fast-expanding bakery chain for cheating the government of required taxes.

About 25 branches of 3N Bakery were padlocked after the BIR concluded its secret probe on the business firm, finding out the said firm has not issued the required receipts in selling bakery products.

The BIR also found out that 3N Bakery has been under-declaring its sales by more than 30%, cheating the government of thousands of pesos in sales taxes, VAT, and other mandated fees.

Ordered padlocked are twenty-five (25) 3N branches registered under the name of Salvacion Sta. Maria, while other branches registered under the names of the Sta. Maria children are not covered by the order. However, the BIR spared other 3N franchisees from the closure order.

The BIR probe has focused on the three-year operation of 3N, and had unearthed details from branches, employees, suppliers and sales.

3N products, specifically its P7- a piece siopao, have become popular and “most-sought- after” snack food by the “masa” market in rural towns where it had set-up branches.

There was no report if the owner will negotiate with the BIR to reopen again by paying the penalties. And, there was no official policy from the BIR if it would file criminal complaint against the owner. []
