LEGAZPI CITY, 25Sept2013 (PNA) – Joint anti-narcotics operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Bicol regional office (PDEA 5), Albay Provincial Office and Sorsogon Provincial Office on Tuesday reported the arrest of two leaders of a drug group operating in Sorsogon City.
PDEA Regional Director Archie A. Grande identified the two suspects as Antonio M. Lopez, also known as Toni, and Analyn J. Dammang, alias Aging, leaders of Lopez-Dammang Drug Group that runs illegal drug transactions in Sorsogon City.
The group’s operation has reached as far as Daraga, Albay, where the two were arrested after several days of intense surveillance, Grande told the PNA.
Armed with an arrest warrant, PDEA operatives conducted an operation at around 2 a.m. on Monday in a rented residence at Arellano Extension, Barangay Ilawod, Daraga, Albay, where Lopez and Dammang were apprehended.
Lopez, a member of the Philippine Marine Corps who is on absence without leave, was then armed with .45-caliber pistol, live ammunition and a hand grenade, Grande said.
He tried to elude arrest but the law enforcers pursued him, resulting in about 30-minute exchange of gunfire before he was subdued and arrested.
No agent or suspect was wounded during the chase.
PDEA operatives also seized three big heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing more or less 15 grams of white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu and one big plastic sachet containing more or less five grams of suspected dried marijuana leaves.
The suspects will be charged for violation of Section 11 Article II of RA 9185 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Grande said.(PNA)
