MANILA, 10Sept (PNA) – The government is set to file charges against businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles in connection to the P10 billion “pork barrel” funds scam within the week, President Benigno Aquino III said Tuesday.
“Cases will be filed not later than Monday. A possibility would be by Friday this week,” Aquino told a press briefing after the 7th ASEAN Navy Chiefs meeting held at the Raffles Fairmont Hotel in Makati City.
Earlier, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said the government is eyeing plunder charges against Napoles and lawmakers involved in the scam based on the sworn statements of whistle-blowers and documentary evidence.
Aquino, however, declined to comment whether lawmakers would also be slapped with similar charges.
“Ayoko pa mag-comment right now… we’ll be filing more and more cases about this particular issue,” he said.
Several lawmakers have been tagged in the anomaly for their alleged misuse and abuse of their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
The scam’s whistleblowers alleged that a portion of the lawmakers’ PDAF went to fake non-government organizations owned by Napoles. (PNA)
