MANILA, 4Sept2013 (PNA) – Catholic priests expressed concern over the proliferation of video scandals involving showbiz personalities.
“We are deeply saddened and disturbed. In God’s divine plan, marital union, the physical intimacy, is so sacred it was created within the institution and sacrament of marriage. It should remain as such, sacred and intimate not to be trivialized and much less flaunted in public,” said Father Melvin Castro, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (CBCP-ECFL) in a text message.
With this, he appealed to celebrities to be more prudent in their actions and to be role models to the public especially to the young people.
“With great love and respect, we appeal to our brothers an sisters in the entertainment industry: we look up to you. The youth look up to you, be role models for those young who are the future of the country and of the Church,” he added.
Fr. Conegundo Garganta, Executive Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Commission on Youth (CBCP-ECY) said having intimate videos does not set good example to the youth.
“Definitely not giving good example to other people not only to the youth. Actions like these manifest poor discernment and lack of moral groundedness,” he added.
Both priests are reacting on the latest video scandal involving television host Wally Bayola which circulated in social networking site, Facebook.
Several weeks ago, the video of band vocalist Chito Miranda with his girlfriend also went viral online.(PNA)
