MANILA, 29Aug2013 – “The public should not rest easy yet. The surrender of Janet Napoles should not deter the public from stepping up the call for the abolition of the pork barrel system, particularly presidential pork.” This was the statement of Kabataan Rep. Terry Ridon as reports surfaced that the fugitive businesswoman surrendered to President Benigno Aquino III.
However, Ridon said that the public should be wary that the surrender may be part of a well-written Palace script to defuse the growing public outrage over the President’s defense and non-abolition of the pork barrel, especial his own pork.
“The surrender seems among the ‘calculated tactics’ of the Palace to defeat the public outrage and deflect the increasing pressure on the President to give up his own pork.”
Ridon said Napoles should be made to name all those involved in the chain of corruption of the pork barrel and presidential funds, even if it leads all the way to Malacanang.
Napoles is reportedly close to a recently fired consultant of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. and had allegedly contributed to the presidential campaign of President Aquino.
