77 persons now stranded by ‘Nando’


MANILA, 28Aug2013 (PNA) -The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday announced that 77 people are now reported stranded at various ports in Bicol, Aparri and San Vicente (Cagayan) due to Tropical Storm “Nando”

Twelve motor boats were prevented from leaving due to heavy rains.

The NDRRMC earlier reported that one person was recorded killed and another was wounded while 550 families were affected by “Nando”.

NDRRMC spokesman Major Reynaldo Balido identified the fatality as Fernando Briones, 59, of Almagro town in Samar.The victim drowned in Almagro.

He also identified the injured as Weller Golloso, 51, of Barangay Inararan in Bulan, Sorsogon.

Golloso was swept by the strong water current while he was crossing the spillway last Monday, the NDRRMC said.

The NDRRMC also said “Nando” affected 550 families or 2,700 people from Barangays 7 and 8 in Laoag City in Ilocos Norte and 547 families or 2,685 people in Almagro in Samar. (PNA)
