MANILA, 26Aug2013 (PNA) – Manila Police District (MPD) operatives on Monday have conducted patrols and security checks around the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal and at Mendiola Bridge near Malacañang in a bid to ensure that the protest actions against the pork barrel fund will be peaceful and incident free.
Chief Supt. Isagani Genabe, Jr., MPD chief, said at least 2,000 police personnel and K-9 units were mobilized to secure the site and to watch out for troublemakers as well as petty thieves.
Vehicles passing near the grandstand area were all inspected.
Portable toilets were set up near the Quirino Grandstand.
Around a million protesters are expected to congregate in Rizal Park to call for the abolition of the pork barrel system.
This was despite President Benigno Aquino III’s announcement last Friday that it was time to abolish the Priority Development Assistance Fund. (PNA)
