MANILA, 19Aug2013 (PNA) – State weathermen warned fishing boats and other small seacraft against sailing in Luzon seaboards, expecting rough to very rough seas there from strong winds associated with the southwest monsoon’s surge enhanced by tropical storm ‘Maring’ (international name: ‘Trami’).

“Larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” State weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also said in its 5 a.m. Aug. 19, 2013 gale advisory.

PAGASA issued the warning as the agency forecasts the southwest monsoon (‘habagat’) to affect the whole country.

In its 5 a.m. Aug.19, 2013 public weather forecast, PAGASA also said ‘Maring’ already intensified into a storm with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near its center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

Monsoon rains, 52 kph to 68 kph winds and waves 3.4 m to 5.0 m high are expected in northern and central Luzon seaboards, PAGASA continued.

Areas along both seaboards are Calayan and Babuyan islands as well as Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Zambales and Bataan.

Aside from monsoon rains, PAGASA cautioned against 52 kph to 63 kph and waves 3.4 m to 4.5 m high in the western seaboard of southern Luzon.

Metro Manila as well as Cavite, Mindoro Occidental, Batangas, Palawan and Oriental Mindoro provinces are along that seaboard.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, 52 kph to 63 kph winds and waves as high as 3.4 m to 4.5 m are expected in southern Luzon’s eastern and southern seaboards, PAGASA further said.

Burias Island, Polillo Island, the Camarines provinces , Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon and Masbate are along those seaboards.

PAGASA estimated ‘Maring’ at 550 km east of Itbayat, Batanes.

The agency forecasts ‘Maring’ to move north-northeast at seven kph.(PNA)
