57 more passengers rescued in Cebu sea collision


MANILA, 17Aug2013 (PNA) – Combined government rescue teams have rescued 57 more passengers of the ill-fated MV St. Thomas Aquinas after it figured in a collision with cargo vessel MV Sulpicio 7 in the seawaters of Talisay City, Cebu Friday night.

Rear Admiral Luis Tuason Jr., Philippine Coast Guard vice commandant for operations, said that as of 7:05 a.m. Saturday, the number of missing passengers went down to 217 from 274, which brings the number of rescued passengers to 629 from 572.

The number of fatalities remain at 24, Tuason said.(PNA)
