NAGA CITY, 13Aug2013 (PNA) – The Archdiocese of Caceres and the local government unit of Naga City jointly launched a short film festival in celebration of the Peñafrancia fiesta next month recently.
In a press release, project chair Fr. Luisito A. Occiano and project co-chair Alec Francis A. Santos, Naga City Arts, Culture and Tourism officer, said the film fest aims to promote the three-century devotion to the Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the Bicol Patroness.
“Through the use of the new media and means of communication, the project expects to effectively reach out to youth and devotees,” Occiano explained.
Dubbed as the 1st Peñafrancia Short Film Festival, the event embraces the theme “Growing Faith in Jesus Christ with Mary at the Service of Social Transformation.”
It will screen five short films, each not exceeding 30 minutes, as finalists.
Open to amateur and professional filmmakers, the organizers will award P100,000, P75,000 and P50,000 to the first, second and third prize winners, respectively.
Archbishop Rolando J. Tirona lauded the project as an important partnership with the Church, LGU and the media “to lift the spirit for social transformation.”
The participants are required to submit letter of intent and one original video on or before Aug. 30.
Santos said the film entry must depict the essence of Bicolano devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia by portraying positive values, promoting deep faith in God and inculcating Bicolano identity.
“Entries containing immoral, defamatory, obscene or scandalous content, or any similar content, which, in the discretion of organizers, is not in keeping with the accepted culture of Bicolanos, will be deemed ineligible,” he added.(PNA)
