CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City, 27July2013 (PNA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed the entire Northern Mindanao area on heightened alert following the explosion of a bomb that killed 6 persons and wound 37 others Friday evening.
Killed were provincial board member Roldan Lagbas, 44, of Misamis Oriental, Dr. Erwin Malaray, Antonio Canete, RyanEstoce, Emmanuel Palapag, and Antonio Paredes.
Malamay, Lagbas, and Paredes were taken to the hospital where attending physicians declared them dead on arrival. Three other victims died on the spot due to severe shrapnel wounds on their heads and bodies.
The 37 wounded were rushed to public and private hospitals here with 17 wounded at Polymedic Medical Plaza in Kauswagan, eight at Cagayan University Medical Center, four at Cagayan de Oro Medical Center, and eight at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center
Chief Supt. Catalino Rodriguez, PNP regional director in Northern Mindanao, said that all police commands in Northern Mindanao’s five provinces had been ordered to be on alert following the bomb explosion that rocked “Kyla’s Restobar” at Rosario Arcade in Limketkai Shopping Mall complex in Lapasan here.
The bombing was the worst to have taken place in this premier capital of Northern Mindanao.
Rodriguez said police investigators were still trying to establish the motive of the bombing and continue to gather evidence at the bombing site. He said investigators were able to gather fragments of the bomb at the site and are now establishing the bomb’s make.The victims were drinking in the tune of a live band in an open space where a chain of entertainment bars lined up at Rosario Arcade, part of the sprawling Limketkai Shopping Complex, when the explosion took place about 11:30 Friday evening, Rodriguez said.
According to witnesses, an unidentified male suspect went inside the “Kyla Restobar” but left hurriedly leaving his backpack on a chair outside the entertainment house which exploded two minutes later, Rodriguez added.
He said the bomb was very powerful that glasses were shattered in establishments near the explosion site. (PNA)
