MANILA, 22July2013 (PNA) – Eight protesters and three police officers were hurt in the shoving match that took place along Commonwealth Avenue — which leads to the Batasan Complex — after 500 militants managed to break through the line of lawmen on duty on Monday.
Police officers managed to push back the protesters, radio reports said.
Three cops and eight of the militants were hurt in the incident albeit not seriously.
The affected area of Commonwealth Avenue was reopened to traffic at about 1:00 p.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) disclosed in its official Twitter account.
For several minutes Monday noon, the Commonwealth Avenue-Luzon area was totally blocked as militants tried to force their way to the Batasan Complex, where President Benigno S. Aquino III is to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA). (PNA)
