LEGASPI CITY, 18July2013 (BicolToday.com) – Two (2) members of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed during an encounter with the Army troopers of 2nd Infantry Battalion led by 1LT Rogelio Velano, early morning Tuesday, July 16, at Barangay Badbad, Oas, Albay.
According to Army reports, government troops were on security patrol when they received a report from a concerned citizen that NPA members were sighted in Brgy Badbad. They proceeded to the enemy’s location to secure the civilians when the NPA opened fires at the soldiers.
The firefight lasted for five minutes which resulted to the killing of two NPA members known as Ka Dennis and Ka Peter. Recovered are 2 M16 rifles, bandoleers and personal belongings.
In a related development, the NPA Santos Binamera Command(SBC), the rebel group operating in Albay confirmed thatthe two slain rebels were NPA guerrillas.
In a statement, SBC said Ka Dennis was Louie Olorsa of Cabaloaon, Guinobatan, Albay and Ka Peter was Alvin Retuirma of Badbad. Oas, same province.
However, SBC deplored the senseless killing of their comrades who were on family visits and on-leave from the command.
