13 provinces in N. Luzon remain under Signal no.1 as ‘Isang’ moves slower


MANILA, 16July2013 (PNA) – Thirteen provinces remain under public storm warning signal number 1 as Tropical Depression “Isang” moves slowly towards the northern part of Luzon, the state weather bureau said Tuesday noon.

Weather Forecaster Meno Mendoza said the affected provinces (45-60 kph winds) are Abra, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Ifugao, Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Mt. Province, Kalinga and Apayao.

PAGASA advised residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal 1 to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Estimated rainfall amount within the 300-km diameter of the tropical depression is from five to 15 millimeters per hour, which is classified as “moderate to heavy.”

Mendoza said as of 10 a.m. , Isang was spotted some 280 km east of Baler, Auror (15.4°N, 124.5°E) packed with maximum winds of 45 kph near the center.

Mendoza said Isang is moving slowly from 19kph on Tuesday morning to 13 kph before noon as it continues to move west northwest.

He added that Isang is expected to make a landfall in Isabela and Cagayan on Wednesday morning as it is expected intensify since it is in the sea.

He said Isang will enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over the Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Bicol and Western Visayas regions.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will still experience sunny to partly cloudy skies with possible passing rains due to localized thunderstorms or convections.

PAGASA said Isang is expected to be at the vicinity of Isabela by Wednesday morning and at 200 km northwest of Aparri, Cagayan by Thursday morning and at 500 km northwest of Aparri, Cagayan by Friday morning. (PNA)
