MANILA, 14June2013 (PNA) – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced that it will form a board of marine inquiry (BMI) panel to look into the sinking of a roll-on roll-off (RO-RO) vessel off Burias Island, Masbate which led to the death of two persons before dawn Friday.
Missing so far are 13 persons while 42 passengers were rescued by the Philippine Navy and PCG rescue units.
The ship M/V Mt. Carmel was carrying 57 crewmen and passengers when it went down.
Cmdr. Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesperson, said the BMI was formed as M/V Mt. Carmel sank during good weather.
But he said the formation of the BMI may have to wait a few days as they are still concentrating on search and rescue operations. (PNA)
