SORSOGON CITY, 13June2013 (BicolToday.com) – Out-going Sorsogon city mayor Leovic Dioneda may still end-up as big winner when the 5th city council opens on July. This can be done by the cooperation of his party-mates and political allies who retained the majority in the chamber after this mid-term election.

With their numbers, it would be rough sailing for the incoming administration headed by incoming Mayor Sally Lee who wants to railroad any measure, having only three (3) seats to count on. The number game is a plus factor for Dioneda.

Seating on the city vice-mayor post is Dioneda’s running mate, plus eight (8) elected councilors under his slate will now comprise the city council. Also, count in the SK city federation president and the barangay chair federation, eleven (11) will be on his side.

Dioneda lost to Sally Lee about 1,203 votes, while his vice mayor bet Charo Dichoso won against former city vice mayor Edmundo Atutubo.

A political analyst here believes that the hold of Dioneda and his brand of leadership may control and nip whatever undermining intention the camp of his political opponent may do before, and after they take their oath. This is where the defeated mayor stays close in the city agenda.

In an interview, Dioneda said he will continue his advocacy in good governance and vows to continue for the development of Sorsogon that he started.

His political will, which were criticized, may become the headache of the incoming administration, a non-critic observed.

The table shows the political alignments and loyalties of the incoming Sorsogon City administration.

  1. The great late President Ramon Magsaysay once said, “My loyalty to my party ends when my duty to the people begins”.

As elected government officials, they should bear in mind that they are the servant of the people and not superior over them.

The problem is that the people treat government officials as their masters. People awareness though is gaining as compared to ten years ago.
