3 civilians in Sorsogon nabbed for alleged gun ban offense, families decry ‘rebel’ tagging

SORSOGON CITY, 18-May-2013 (BicolToday.com) – Police nabbed three persons early dawn on Friday inside a bar and the suspects were name-tagged as “rebels”, an act that had caused an alarm among their families.

“Absurd! All lies ! ” were the reaction by families of the victims who were allegedly accused by Sorsogon police as members of rebels groups. They claimed their arrested family members are civilians, and are working in the local government.

According to them, brothers Ramesis and William Bueno Hubilla and cousin Robinson Hamor Huete are all civilians. They denied being connected, nor members of the New People’s Army, contrary to police claims.

Ramesis Hubilla is former LTO Sorsogon employee, and Robinson Huete is working at Sorsogon City government as contractual employee. While, William is a contractual employee of LGU Casiguran.

According to victims’ account, they were in a local bar in this city to relax and unwind. They were not aware, or have knowledge of the guns and ammunition being implicated on them.

The victims are relatives, and residents of Santa Cruz, Casiguran, Sorsogon.

Meanwhile, families of the victims had asked the police to explain why they were implicated, or “tag” as members of the rebel group.

In an initial report by Sorsogon police, the three were arrested inside a restaurant along Polvorista, Street.

According alleged police report, “About 12:10 early dawn of Friday, May 17 while intelligence operatives from PNP Intelligence Service, MICO and MIB are conducting surveillance operations inside the Pams restaurant along Polvorista, Street, Sorsogon City against the three persons allegedly members of NPA who are carrying firearms.”

“One of the suspects drew a hand gun from his bag and fired a single shot towards the government operatives but missed his target. A fist fight ensued immediately which has resulted to the eventual arrest of the three suspects,” said the report.

Suspect Robinson Hamor Huete was nabbed in alleged possession of one Armscor caliber.45 pistol with serial number 764034 loaded with 13 live ammunition.

While suspect, Ramesis Bueno Hubilla was arrested in alleged possession of one fragmentation hand grenade and one piece of empty shell of caliber .45 pistol, which were recovered in the scene.

His brother William Bueno Hubilla II was also arrested.

Suspects Robinson H.Huete and Ramesis B.Hubilla are now facing a case in violation of Illegal possession of Firearms, Ammunition and Explosives, under Resolution Number 9561-A [COMELEC GUN BAN]. The suspects are now under custody of the Sorsogon City Police.

However, William B. Hubilla was released after the required holding/detention period. [BicolToday.com]
