MANILA, 16-May-2013 (PNA)- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to proclaiming 5 to 6 winning candidates in the senatorial race Thursday night, unless it grants the petition filed by the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) to suspend the proclamation.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, Jr. told a news briefing they expect to issue a resolution at 1 p.m. Thursday — if they will deny or grant the petition of UNA.
“We will resolve the issue after lunch,” he said.
He added if they deny the petition the proclamation of the 5 to 6 winning candidates will push through at 7 pm Thursday.
“We will send invitation to those who will be proclaimed this afternoon,” Brillantes added.
He noted if they grant the petition, the proclamation will be suspended.
On Wednesday, the opposition party asked the poll body to suspend the proclamation of new senators, citing the slow transmission of election results. (PNA)
