MANILA, 8-May-2013 (PNA) – As part of its efforts to secure the May 13 mid-term elections, the 9th Infantry Division announced that the Army will be deploying the 80th Infantry Battalion to Masbate.
The unit will be in the area from May 9 to 16.
Major Angelo Guzman, 9th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the 80th Infantry Battalion will be airlifted by a Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo plane, on May 9, from Villamor Air Base to Masbate City Airport.
He added that Lt. Col. Ted B. Dumosmog will be commanding the 300-strong 80th Infantry Battalion.
The unit have just completed the Battalion of Excellence (BOE) training program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.
The 80th Infantry Battalion was formerly stationed in Occidental Mindoro prior the BOE that started last February 2013.
“80th Infantry Battalion will fill-in the gaps in our election security operation requirements in Masbate,” 9th Infantry Division election task group “Bicol” commander Brig. Gen. Felix J. Castro, Jr., said.
“With the addition of one battalion, we can now better address the security issues and restrict the NPAs and private armed groups from hampering the conduct of a safe, orderly and peaceful election,” Castro added.
Last January, the 93rd Division Reconnaissance Company composed of 100 soldiers was deployed in Masbate to augment the 9th Infantry Battalion.
Just recently, on May 3, a platoon or 30 soldiers also arrived in Masbate for election duty. (PNA)
