LEGAZPI CITY (23-Mar-2013) – Albay Governor Joey Salceda announced here on Friday that the Green Zone of Bicol’s tourism strategy will be launched during the month-long staging of the province’s Daragang Magayon Festival this April.
This Green Zone, which is part of the Catanduanes-Albay-Masbate-Sorsogon (CALMASOR) tourism strategy, will include as an integral part the BacMan (Bacon-Manito) tourism complex located within the 250,000-hectare forest reservation that plays host to the giant geothermal power generation facilities being operated of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC).
CALMASOR is a tourism alliance recently organized by Salceda as chair of the Regional Development Council (RDC) that clusters the four Bicol southeastern-most provinces as the “Soul of the South” of the country’s tourism industry.
He said the alliance was initiated to ensure a stronger and more cohesive promotional campaign among the provinces of Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate, which all possess inherent world-class tourism potentials.
Salceda said tour packages are being developed to provide guests diverse experiences and more options with the introduction of new tourist attractions in these areas.
“A Green Zone tour itinerary will be launched through a CALMASOR Amazing Race (locals only), a special marathon episode coinciding with the Daragang Magayon Festival 2013,” he said.
The CALMASOR Amazing Race is an adventure race highlighting many of local communities’ unique features and heritage.
Teams of two individuals will race around its destinations, including the BacMan Green Zone, in competition with other teams.
Teams should strive to complete challenges in three different categories to win major cash prizes.
Challenge categories include arts and culture and hands-on, fun and festivals and adventure and sports. (PNA)
