SORSOGON CITY (BicolToday.com/12-March-2013) – Dr. Alex Destura, city veterinarian, assured the consuming public that the newly-opened slaughterhouse satisfactorily meets the standards of clean meat as mandated by government rules and latest slaughterhouse technology.
Classified as “Class AA”, the abbatoir meets the hygienic operational design of the facility when it was inaugurated for public use on March 2.
Dr. Destura admitted there were some problems of the old slaughterhouses regarding conformity to technical specifications, formerly located at Bacon District and Balogo East District, but the new modern facility now opened to public use shall produce the best butchered meat with clean, hygienic slaughtering operational technology and meat inspection as mandated by Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
The veterinary doctor also said that training courses on butchering should be pursued by TESDA since competent butchers are highly paid abroad.
He cited the support by Sorsogon City Mayor Leovic Dioneda in pushing with the new slaughterhouse project, the town council, and the Land Bank of the Philippines in providing the financing.
He also lauded Matt Puatu, director of National Meat Inspection Service of Region V, for facilitating the approval of building design and technical assistance, and special mention to Engineer William Sabater of DOH region V for design and technical help for the construction waste water treatment facility.
