Reporter shot in Bacoor City


MANILA (7-Mar-2013) – The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) raised alarm on Wednesday, March 6, warning that another reporter for a local publication in Cavite was shot in Bacoor City Wednesday morning.

Two (2) unidentified men fired shots at Jun Valdecantos, who is a reporter for Cavite Exposed, at around 9:20 a.m., along Aguinaldo Highway near DSM Subdivision, Barangay (village) Mambog I, said PO3 Angelito Roxas of Bacoor Police in their initial report..

The assailants wore a black jacket and were on-board a black motorcycle.

Valdecantos sustained two gunshot wounds to the back and was immediately rushed to the Medical Center Imus for treatment. Roxas said Valdecantos is currently in stable condition.

A member of the National Press Club, Valdecantos had previously worked as reporter for tabloids People’s Tonight and Imbestigador.

Roxas said no motive has yet been established behind the shooting, but it could be related to his work as journalist.
