MANILA (23-Feb-2013/PNA) – The Commission on Elections has summoned two senatorial candidates and six party-list groups to take down their illegal posters within three days upon receipt of the notice from the poll body.
Atty. Esmeralda Ladra, Law Department head of the Comelec, said they have ordered Liberal Party senatorial bet, Riza Hontiveros-Baraquel, and independent candidate Edward Hagedorn to immediately remove their illegal campaign posters or face sanction.
On the other hand, the poll body also issued notices to Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA); 1 Join Alliance of Marginalized Group, Inc. (1JAMg); Piston Land Transportation Coalition, Inc. (Piston Party-list); Kabataan Party List and LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA).
Three notices were sent to Buhay Hayaan Yumabong (Buhay) for having campaign posters in three illegal locations.
“We requested them and even ordered them to remove or cause the removal of the campaign materials outside the common poster areas designated by the Comelec,” Ladra added.
Baraquel was asked to take down posters in Dumaguete while the streamer of Hagedorn was illegally posted along Osmena highway going to South Luzon Expressway.
She warned that failure to remove the illegal campaign materials, the poll body has the power to moto propio remove them.
Ladra also noted that one of the grounds for the cancelation of the registration for party-list is the non-compliance of election law.
“Sinasabi din natin dun especially sa party-list organization not only election offense cases but we will also file or cancel their registration if they will be insistent on putting up those materials in illegal locations,” she added. (PNA)
