LEGAZPI CITY (22-Feb-2013/PNA) – A suspect facing a string of murder and frustrated murder charges in Masbate, earning for him the label as the most wanted person in the province and notoriety as “palos” (eel) for being too elusive, was ambushed by young assailants Monday night in Sitio Inkong, Barangay Bogtong in Mandaon town.

Senior Supt. Heriberto Olitoquit, Masbate provincial police director, in a belated report reaching the regional police office in Camp Gen. Simeon Ola in this city Thursday, identified the slain suspect as Elias Madrilejos, a resident of Bogtong.

Madrilejos was facing one count of double murder and two counts of double frustrated murder charges docketed at Criminal Case Numbers 14160, 14161 and 14163, in that order.

Olitoquit said Madrilejos was on his way home when ambushed by four young-looking assailants armed with long and short firearms.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds on the head and body.

Prior to the killing, elements of the provincial police had been deployed to track down and arrest Madrilejos but the latter was reportedly able to escape for a number of times.

Masbate police have not totally declined the possibility that new recruits of the New People’s Army were the ones who launched the ambush as earlier claimed by the rebels based in the province.

They are, however, exploring other angles such as possible act of vengeance by the families of Madrilejos’ victims.(PNA)
